Or an M.2 format SSD and USB3 to M.2 adapter.

The adapters vary from £10 to £35 typically on Amazon and for the M.2
SATA drive they offer Crucial 250GB for £37, 500GB for £60 and 1TB for
£105.

You could try to future proof yourself a bit by buying an M.2 NVMe drive
and USB3.1 adapter. It will cost more but NVMe drives are just insanely
fast if you ever want to connect to something else.
