I never managed to go through the "Phoenix" books all the way.
The problem=
is that the
technology to do this exists, so somebody is bound to try. I'm presuming
t= hat in the
books, one individual goes through a special transporter and comes out of
t= he process
looking like somebody else. The technology in "Traitor's Son"
can't do tha= t. What it
can do is subtly alter the person so that they would act in a way more in
l= ine with the
aims of the people behind this scheme. However, once the replacement (I us= ed the
term "replicant") is in place, the people behind the scheme no
longer have = any control.
The replacement can't be too different either, or would be noticed. These = are the
weaknesses behind this type of technology, and could well be the undoing (I=
really
can't say more without giving spoilers for "Confluence").
