Most uses (as a home server) are catered for by a 600 mhz processor &
1/2 a gig of ram..I will probably also use it as a dvd player until I get
one for the living room for such stuff (I might to get a digitv card)

We get "free to air" digital terrestrial TV & I've often
wondered if you can record that (in it's original form). I don't want it
touching analog on the way in 

BTW something I can't work out....

Can you build a surround sound system just using USB speakers?

Also..could you build em with rechargeable batteries such that the USB
power could power them up to a certain volume & then the battery would
kick in as well. When you weren't using them or when the power/volume was
low they could recharge the batteries. One neat cable. You could put hubs
(for adding devices & for providing power) all over the place....

All you need to do id ID the speaker (on the USB bus) & you could set
it indivually (e.g. it it's a sub woofer).
