because of the high pressure involved it takes a long time to fill. (like
scuba tanks which use similar hardware)

Last time I saw one Natural gas filling stations use banked cylinders of
already compresses NG
to provide the fill, I expect that's too much expense for a home filling
station when a compressor will do since the vehicle will usuallly be parked
for a while anyway.

Yeah, the gas takes up more volumrn for the same energy content.
I guess a turbo or supercharger could boost the output a bit without
streesing the engine too much (since the fuel is weaker).
