The most common failure seem to be problems with the board contacts. To
cure this, reseat all boards and contacts in the radio (or use some kind
of cleaner to clean them.) Beside this I am not aware of any major
malfunction in the TR7.

Get one that looks good, and that have not been tampered with, and you
will have a very nice transceiver.
