I'm not teasing you, personally, but it just sounds so... gay.
Literally.  Why not say "boyfriend" or even sweetheart?  Something
that has some vavoom?

Did you see the awful "clone wars" Star Wars movie?  I loved
the line where the husband of Skywalker's mother cries
out during her funeral: "She was the best partner a man
could have."  I had to let out a guffaw.
