In the Middle East, the fellow would simply have his right hand cut off in
the public square. Then they let him go. If he lives and steals again, his
left hand is cut off. Eventually his head is cut off and he stops stealing
altogether.
In this country, if a person has a knife or gun and threatens to use it,
what is the difference? If he has a "knife on his person" that could mean in
his pocket, so why consider him armed at all? Actually, I would be more
afraid of a person with a knife who knows how to use it than the same person
with a gun.
We live in a time of continuing emasculation of America and revitalization
of Comstock laws. If the Brady Bunch becomes successful in their aims, where
does it end? In some locales airguns are treated as if they were firearms.
The end result is logically, that only the elite (whomever they may be) will
be allowed to be armed and serfdom will be the lot for the rest. It is not
better to be safe than sorry, it is better to live free than die a slave. If
the American people decide they prefer safety over freedom of choice, they
will eventually have neither. I choose to live free.
