There's constant debate over how much of a performance hit .NET actually
causes. In theory, it shouldn't cause much at all, but it seems to me that
the automated garbage collection is still far from optimal
performance-wise. Some apps run so well that you can't tell them apart from
native compiled apps, but some seem to get stuck every now and then.
Application startup times can also get real pig-like if the developers
don't pay attention, because the platform loads this, that & uncle
bob's kitchen sink and then some more assemblies.
