   It is quite difficult to work around this - you have to get the GUI up,
then load all the rest of the stuff in the background.  Otherwise the 5
second delay the first time you hit the database is quite disconcerting.
The customer still ends up waiting because I'm always suspicious of an app
that keeps grinding the disk after visually loading .... "is it really
ready to use?"
