Hey Wilfred!
WvV> Maurice wanted to "_eliminate_ the MSGID as well as it's evil,
WvV> demented twin the REPLY".
If the truth be told I don't actually care one way or the other. My only
'objection' to it is the false faith many seem to attribute to it. Personally
I think something like a uuid would be better (best?) for that sort of
activity.
WvV> But I noticed he already found out for himself that's not a
WvV> good idea...
Not true. I discovered AGES ago that certain questionable practices would
inevitably make it virtually impossible to rid the network of corrupted data,
MSGID's being a prime example. If I am not mistaken I first brought up this
particular topic in the PERL echo around the time when 2 digit years were first
declared to be obsolete. I believe the Subject was, "what time is it mr.
wolf?" which later evolved into, "i am the walrus, not the duper, d-d-d-dupe",
or something along that line. It was a long, long time ago and my memory isn't
what it used to be. :-/
I already knew from experience what was going to happen. :::evil grin:::
Also I did fire off a warning shot.
WvV> Software that supports it could use it for a better way of dupe
WvV> detection.
For sure. As long as nobody screws with the accepted format it vastly
outshines the MSGID for the same purpose especially considering how it was
allowed to be corrupted.
Life is good,
Maurice
