| subject: | Fuel Cells as Backup Generators |
From: "Dave Ings" Anybody know anything about this? I own a fully winterized cottage north of Toronto where the power goes out once in a while during the winter. Normally it comes back on fairly promptly, but it's unreliable enough to make one think of backup power lest the place freeze (which would be a minor disaster). The traditional approach was to use a gas generator, but they have significant downsides - they must remain outside, so they get stolen unless you build a secure shed, they are eyesores, they require regular maintenance, etc etc. A friend suggested that power cells are the forward looking solution. They are beginning to drop in price for residential applications, and they can be used indoors since they only emit heat and water. How realistic is using fuel cell technology as a backup power source? Buy now or wait a couple of years? http://www.fuelcellstore.com/cgi-bin/fuelweb/view=Item/cat=32/product=869 http://www.fuelcellstore.com/cgi-bin/italy/view=Item/cat=31/product=393 Regards, Dave Ings, Toronto, Canada --- BBBS/NT v4.01 Flag-5* Origin: Barktopia BBS Site http://HarborWebs.com:8081 (1:379/45) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 379/45 1 633/267 |
