JW> 1) In simplest terms, what is the difference between or what is:
JW> a) Ethernet cable compared to thin ethernet.
There are three types of Ethernet, thick net, thin net and 10Base T. Thick
net and thin net use coax cables. The basic difference is the maximum length
of a segment. Thick net is limited to 1500 meters, thin net is limited to 185
meters. Both are bus topollogies, ie. multiple computers can be connected to
one physical cable.
10Base T is limited to 100 meters. It is a single computer per cable
connection. 10Base T is plugged into a hub to place it on the network.
JW> b) The cable you plug into a RJ45 connector, why are there
tagories?
Basically the quality of signal. The higher the catagories, the better the
cable and the longer the cable run can be.
 JW> c) 10baseT and 10base2, (I think from memory!)
10Base T uses an RJ45. 10Base2 is thin net.
JW> d) What type of cable would most utilise a server and 5 clients
running
JW> NW 4.11 with 3Com900 network cards? What cable supports
 JW> 100Mb/s the best?
Cat 5 cable supports 100 mB. You'll need a hub that also supports 100 megs.
For the situtation you described, 100 mb is overkill. 10 mB would be fine.
Minimal cost in your case would be thin net. You don't need a hub.
