There are different ways to do that. When I was running MagickaBBS it would
create an echomail.out semaphore. I had a cronjob looking for that file and if
found it would delete it and run "hpt scan". It also created netmail.out so I
did the same thing and ran "hpt pack".

Currently I just run hpt scan or pack as needed but I will likely do the same
for golded at some point.
