Peter, I do not have diabetes.  I have a rare genetic disorder they can
track ¨through my mother's line for 2 generations before me and down
through all my ¨sisters kids if that helps.  Got written up in some obscure
medical journal for ¨it.  Dominant trait apparently?

Hypoglycemia, real thing not the fad diagnosis.  Stress glocose test shows
¨noting on any of us before about 3 hours and takes the 8 hour test to show
¨whats really going on.  Radical drop between 5 and 7 hour (dangerous
levels).

Experience growing up with this for me was different as even though my
¨grandparents didnt really understand the blood gucose cycle, they knew
that ¨what they ate affected them so we have this cooking habit we all
share.  Almost ¨everything I cook, is 'diabetic acceptable' as the diet is
close.  The ¨difference is we are all tolerant of slow release complex
starches so potatoes ¨and things like that are allowed and encouraged.  Not
eating at all for more ¨than 8 hours is 'bad' but the high metabolism that
comes with this deals with ¨the weight gain that others might incur if they
followed same.  Most of my life ¨I and my siblings have been underweight to
the point of bothering Doctors who ¨treated us yet we eat like 4,000
calories a day.  Only at mid-life does that ¨change and now at last, I'm
'pleasingly plump' which delights me totally!

I've often given dietary advice to others with diabetes and warned them to
¨check the recipes with their Doctor/Dietician to make sure it matches but
so ¨far, have never gotten a 'no' on any of them.
