From: "Frank Haber" >a cloth that was damp, just touching the tape as it entered the head block >section, to "wick" the tape. I have a dim memory of some 1/4" once that squealed terribly over the heads, producing FM/scrape-flutter so bad it sounded like ring-modulator Steve Reich. I don't know what I did to the master long-term, but spraying with boating silicone spray on the same rag you used (g) worked. I was frightened of water; wonder whether that would have worked as well. Drifting the thread back.... For another good demo of "dynamic range vs. none," compare the compressed samples of the Beatles' CDS "Love" on the Cirque site vs. the long-form intervew with the son of George Martin on Saturday's Weekend Edition. (Make sure you don't listen to the low-fi actual show clip.) I say, Bravo - very impressive mashup/mix/new_composition. Gonna have to hear the surround now. Wonder what the cheapest DVD-Audio player is? --- BBBS/NT v4.01 Flag-5* Origin: Barktopia BBS Site http://HarborWebs.com:8081 (1:379/45) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 379/45 1 633/267 |
