| subject: | Bizarre Python-War of the Worlds cross-overs |
From: "Mike Combs"
Oh, I just had to share this...
Over on rec.arts.sf.movies somebody brought up the Pendragon version of
"War of the Worlds" which was just released on DVD. While
insulting the special effect, I said:
"What I found amusing is that their CGI was not only chintzy-looking,
but apparently cheaper than a horse rental. When some of the characters in
those supposedly horse-drawn wagons were pretending to drive their horses
onward, it made me want to go, "You can't fool me! You've got a
lackey up there banging coconut halves together!""
That prompted James Gassaway to remark:
"I wish you hadn't said that. Now my brain is trying to process the
idea of Monty Python's War of the Worlds."
So I offered up:
A Martian goes into a pet shop to complain about the human he just bought:
Shop owner: Yes, the Norwegian white. What's wrong with it?
Martian: I'll tell you what's wrong with it, my lad; 'e's dead that's what's wrong.
Shop owner: He's probably pining for the Earth fjords.
So Kevin Reilly gave us:
Final scene from 'Monty Python's Life Of Gzynoryyxx': several smashed war
machines lie in the ruins of London, and from out of each slithers a dying
Martian. All are sick, decrepit-looking specimens, except for one
disturbingly happy alien who suddenly smiles and begins to sing to the
accompaniment of whistles from the Martian chorus:
"Always look on the bright side of Earth.
Even though it's not the world of your birth.
If your invasion's gone awry,
Don't break down and cry,
Even though the humans laugh and mock us.
Though we thought our plans were smart
We were buggered from the start
'Cos we forgot to take our jabs for streptococcus.
And always look..."
etc.
By this point James was threatening to send us both the bills for his next
twenty years of psychoanalysis.

Mike Combs
