   What a concept!   WHAT?  And the provider would voluntarily give up the
option to sell ring tones for $2.99 each?  Or would you have to pay a
perfomance fee to the writer for each ring based on the number of people in
the room who heard it?    Hmmm, need to add a few more sensors to the
iPhone.

   Re: Unlocked phone.   I don't mind Cingular cornering the market on this
one for a while.  But if they don't license the API to other providers they
wil become the same "wall of no innovation" that currently
pervades the rest of the cell phone industry.   How many years have we had
visual
E-mail?   Why did it take so long to bring visual voicemail controls to the
phone?

  And don't get me started on the $0.20/text message - iChat thing. They've
been using text messages as a profit center too long.  It costs them
nothing to provide and nets them billions.   I don't mind paying for actual
bandwidth used though.

  The net aspect is also slightly disappointing in that Cingular doesn't
have the high speed network built out as far as Verizon.   (Do they have
one at all?).   It would be a great portable gateway device for the laptop.
