Lots of people got that far. My dad discovered penicillin in 1925.
When he showed his petrie dish to his biology professor the prof
said, "Yeah, that sometimes happens. Clean it out and try again."

The genius lies in really *seeing what's in front of you (and in
the follow through). ;)
