Two days ago in the news here was a sory about all the wood-related
industries, which is just about everything around here (pulp & paper
mills; building; carpentry), are in serious trouble because it's too warm:
the forest roads are too soft for the big trucks to drive, to pick up the
logs that have been cut down, so the industry is pretty much out of raw
material and the logs are going bad. They've already had to shut down most
of the export of wood, so the trucking companies are affected as well. Ski
resorts are in trouble, as are all businesses that sell winter gear, skis
and stuff like that. We also have a lot more disease (borealis fever, for
example - don't know if that's what it's called in English) spread by
insects that normally don't have large populations because of the short
growth period, but are now doing well because of the warm weather.
