Hi!

First, I was only in New Orleans once and that was about 12 years ago. That said:

1) Have coffee and beniets (sp?)at Cafe Du Monde. Not because they are the
best but because it is famous. Not bad, though.
2) Play chess with one of the guys near the Cafe who charge money for the
games. Hey, why not?
3) Ride the St. Charles Street Trolley. Give yourself some time as it is slow.
4) Don't walk around in the French Quarter after dark unless you are in a
group or are feeling very self confident.
5) Do walk around the French Quarter during the day. Neat place, even if
it has some of the scuzziest bars I've ever seen next to some of the nicest
resturants or art galleries.
6) Have a meal in one of the GOOD resturants. No place like it. I've
eaten in a number of places with food as good or better but New Orleans
style is in the service and ambiance and there's no place like it. At
least not in the US.
7) Have a meal in one of the local family resturants. The food is
different than the GOOD places but you won't be disapointed.

Howdy all!

I can find out all about N.O from teh web, guidebooks etc etc, but I was
wondering if any of you (or your friends/family) have any personal
experience with the place... places to go, things to see, what to avoid,
what's over-rated (or under for that matter) etc etc.

thanks!
