Just a few years ago here, a local radio broadcaster used to subscribe to
and rebroadcast the BBC World Service. To pay for it, they sold advertising
time. To make the time to insert the adverts, they used software to
recognise and shorten pauses and silences. They used to run 2 to 4 minutes
of ads per hour.
