    Not so. Look at the Bernie S (Ed Cummings) case. 4 years in a federal
prison for simple possesion of a "redbox". No victims, no evidence the
redbox was ever used, but 4 years in federal prison (courtesy of the US
Secret Service) simply for possessing a redbox. (Wonder why they call
themselves Secret? Sounds like the Secret Police to me.)
 I see little difference between possesion of a redbox and possesion of a
modified scanner that can monitor blocked frequencies or even a scanner
that can recieve cordless phone communications. I doubt the gov't would
see a difference either. Where there's careers to be made, those in the
gov't will prosecute anyone for anything if they think it will help their
career(s). They all want to be big stars and who cares who gets stepped on
and who's rights get violated? And if the question of a citizen's rights
comes up, they just run another story on why they need to violate the
rights of private citizens because of drug traffickers and terrorists.
People see those drug trafficker and terrorist stories on their TV sets
and it molds public opinion. (Gotta control that beast if they wanna get
re-"elected".)
 Another interesting point. Why is the gov't allowed to purchase scanners
that have no frequencies blocked out? By law, gov't agent(cies) are
required to obtain a court order to monitor private conversations and to
show cause why they need to monitor private communications prior to
monitoring private communications. If they are allowed to purchase
scanners that are full coverage who's to stop them from simply turning on
their scanners and illegally monitoring private communications? The
answer, no one.
 BTW in case you don't know, a redbox is simply a device that can generate
quarter tones. On some older payphones if you play the correct tones into
the payphone's reciever, it will think you just put money into it. A
quarter tone is a simple series of 5 tones. The same sound the payphone
would generate when you put a quarter into it. Each tone is equal to one
nickel. A dime would generate 2 tones and a nickel would generate 1 tone.
 So be warned. Bernie S now, maybe me or you next. No one is immune to
"OUR" government and its agent(cies). Just because you're just a little
guy doesn't mean you're not gonna be next. The only thing being a little
guy means is that if they do come after you, they'll more than likely win
given they have unlimited financial resources (your tax dollars) and you
won't have the same amount of resources to adequately defend yourself
(legally) and you will most likely end up imprisoned like Bernie S is now.
