WE> That's my experience with companies in Quebec. So I press two and
WE> inquire, '?Hablas es Espaniol, Senor?' -)
:) :) ?Es bastante frio, para ti? You can tell where my focus is, this
week, can't you? :)
DM> I'll be applying for citizenship in New Zealand. :)
WE> In a warm country like that you'd melt. -)
Been there, thrice; twice, 3-month trips; didn't melt -- so, willing to risk
it at least once more. South Island much like B.C.
DM> We have health-food stores ... no co-ops, though. Please, keep in
DM> mind that what I describe applies to area (the Yukon, 60d+N lat);
WE> Gosh, I bet apples are a dollar each and this time of year fresh
WE> vegetables are a dream. But wait, isn't this the land that grows huge
WE> cabbages? What else? Elk, natural organic food. Gosh I don't know
We can grow big cabbages ... and other vegetables ... but not in winter and
the average home may have a garden, but isn't a farm. :) Caribou? Sure, i
one's a hunter. Fresh fruit ain't cheap. We have some of the highest food
prices in the whole country.
WE> neighbors in the North is more important than the right religion.
That's the truth. :)
DM> morning, New Year's Day, it's -34 C, and dropping, although we're told
DM> to expect it to warm up by the weekend ... and that's tomorrow! :)
DM> It's exhilarating weather for cross-country skiing and ski-dooing and
DM> winter camping
WE> Hm, about -30 F. Is this cold enuf for your spit to crack?
-30 F is pretty fresh, but -40 F is when it really starts to become somewhat
problematic. In Clinton Creek (ie, asbestos mine, 40 miles N of Dawson City
and 20 miles E of the Alaska border) in 1976 (when I was younger, and little
bit more foolish) I walked a return trip of 8 miles to small village called,
40-mile; temperature measured -68 F ... we walked along shore of the 40-mile
river (ie, I didn't go alone). I knew it was cold then because, your lashes
would freeze together when you blinked, the hairs in your nose would accumu-
late ice until you were forced to breathe via your mouth, you could not bend
your fingers because your gloves were as flexible as iron, brushing against
spruce branches would cause them to break off with a report like a rifle ...
and so on. After a "very brief" respite, the temp has dipped down to -41 C.
