RN>Mat Hough wrote in a message to Roger Nelson:
MH> I understand there was a rush in rentals stores over the weekend
MH> with people wanting to rent his films. I wonder which ones were
MH> the most rented?
RN>Probably the one that made him famous, "From Here To Eternity."
MH> I bought THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE on DVD because it has
MH> letterboxing and a running commentary with Frankenheimer (I
MH> haven't listened to it yet). The tape had a documentary about the
MH> film's making with Sinatra participating in the discussion. The
MH> DVD has this, too.
RN>I understand that Sinatra owned a goodly portion of "The
RN>Manchurian Candidate." I recall that my brother really
RN>liked that film and the book. I'm glad to hear that they
RN>are putting all that extra, pertinent info on the DVD and I
RN>can only hope they aren't placing promos for other films on
RN>them, as they do on tapes.
I have found no promos yet on any of the DVDs I have. MANCHURIAN is one of
the overlooked masterworks of the 1960s.
Yes, Sinatra actually owned the picture, and after the death of his friend
President Kennedy, he withdrew it from circulation for 25 years since it
deals with a political assassination.
