The frequencies are combined, with all the by-products you can imagine.
Harmonics are produced, etc.  It makes as much sense as how you can decode
more than one frequency at the same time with only one diaphragm as a sensor.
This diaphragm is your eardrum.
Gordon will probably give you a better answer than this.  :)
