The flexibility allowed by the Internet would be welcome addition to
our merry little band here. From my readings in rec.audio.high.end I believe
we would loose a lot of the flavor of the Echo if we just opened up an
unmoderated news group and said "have at it".
I also do not believe we should begin limiting ourselves to
the "high end" and exotics. I was recently taken back by a review in
Stereophiles Home Theater Magazine reviewing a projection TV. They really
clobbered this set. But their prime reason for hating this set was its'
"ability to been seen clearly with ambient lighting". I guess no self
respecting Home Theater Enthusiast would dare watch a movie with ANY
lights on. That woke me up to the attitude many in the high end share. It
must be ultra-expensive, exotic, and doesn't have to make any common sense or
even offer proof that it works, to be a good high end audio product. I don't
want us to get off on that track as they have in "RAHE".
I would more like to see a moderated newsgroup with the stated
goal of "The $ensible Sound Magazine:. Discussing and helping one another
get the best bang for the buck. No matter if that is speaker building,
winding your own cables or teaching someone the difference between para
and serial speaker wiring, or passing on the name of a really extraordinarily
recorded CD.
Our own WEB Page would indeed be a plus. Let me do some checking
on that for you. A friend of mine is an ISP and rents his office space
from another friend. I will check out all the different possibilities this
coming week.
Perhaps by then I will have some other thoughts. In the meantime
if there is anything I can do to assist you, just throw something heavy and
make a very loud noise. I'm getting old, slow and deaf.
Cheers, John
