subject: Plug-in antennas

Hello all!

I was just thumbing through the new RadioShack catalog and I saw one of those
TV/FM antennas that you plug into the wall outlet and connect your 75-ohm
coax to to provide a "whole house" antenna for your TV. I got to thinking -
I wonder how effective that would be with a scanner?? They had a
conventional one as well as an amplified one (20 dB amplification). I just
have to wonder if they really do what they say. I also wonder about the
amplified one - would it amplify the "noise" (for lack of a better term) that
fluorescent lights and other things generate when they are on? The concept
almost seems a little to good to be true... does anyone have any experience
with these things??

Thanks in advance!

Glenn
