The first local BBS I joined was for Commodore users in 1984.
Later I saw a BBS List in a Free Monthly paper about Computing, so I
joined a BBS that ran GT-Power software so I could learn some about
DOS and Windows 3.1 because my section at work got a DOS computer for
us to use to enter our data, and get daily reports.
I didn't buy a Compatable Computer till 1994, but while I still used my
C=64 at home I was able to help some people at Church who were using
286's and 386's, and I also was able to help some at work.
Before the DOS computer was placed in our section, we used a Texas
Instrument 300 baud Terminal with the cups on top to place the
telephone handset on to.
To connect to the Main System, to wake it up we had to press CTRL G ,
the BELL Command.
The instructions said to press BOTH KEYS, which was understood by
some employees to repeatedly HIT both keys at the same time.
It took a little explaining from me that the CTRL Key should be used
the same way the SHIFT Key is used, hold it down first and then press
the G Key.
Some of the people that I worked with got real frustrated after pokeing
time after time on the keyboard and not getting connected that they
were ready to throw the Terminal out the door.
