Augustin - Check out the latest issue of Canadian
Yachting -There's an article on Ted Brewer designs there.
I sailed one summer on a Douglas 32, and crewed a number of
times with friends on their Hullmaster 31. Both boats are
the same basic design, but the Hullmaster has a traditional
countered transom-the 32 has a reverse transom. Sailing
characteristics are very similar to those of an Alberg 30 -
the Douglas is heavier, and perhaps a bit slower in some
conditions, but a good safe boat in bad weather. The
Douglas has more freeboard and a wider beam, and therefore
has a much roomier feel below.
Both the Douglas 32 and the Hullmaster 31 are very well
made, durable boats, with oversized hardware and rigging.
My friends with the Hullmaster are currently in
Newfoundland, where they have been sailing their boat for
the past couple of years (with geat success). I'm sure they
would give the Hullmaster the highest possible praise.
Hope this answers your question.
