There is nothing better than ZTree for really seeing what files you have. However, it does take a bit of pain to figure out the usage. As Gary said, the main point is that you can just log files, then walk away leaving it to grind away for a few minutes. Once it is done, you can very quickly see what is going on. You are supposed to be smart enough to realise that if something changes files after you have logged them, then ZTree will not know that until you relog. Couple of tips: Press B to view all files in branch (folder and subfolders). Then press F for the filespec (e.g. *.doc). Press Alt+F to change file display (e.g. to view details). Press Alt+S to change sort order. Sorting with the M (number) option is sensational when you have a numbered sequence of files (rfc9.txt, rfc10.txt, rfc20.txt). Press F1 when at a prompt for help. After Alt+F you can enter some stuff to select (for example) all *.doc files with size > 1000 bytes and modified date > whatever. When looking at folders, pressing Alt+K is pretty cute. You can see directory usage in an easy way (per folder or per whole branch). Warnings: I think ZTree defaults to use an OEM charset (details are very vague in my mind). Anyway, by default it cannot manipulate files with certain weird characters in the name (e.g. an em dash rather than an ANSI dash). Also I think another default means ZTree will not copy alternate streams when it copies a file (if you have any of these).
