the result not of Preserver interference, but rather the last remnants of

universe by resident Qs who didn't want their particular little playpen
completely annihilated.

I tend to take these worlds not exactly as shown in their respective
episod= es. I consider none of them
to be Preserver transplants of Earth cultures. What culture is Miri's
worl= d a transplant of anyway?
In "Miri," the exact duplicate Earth was a plot orphen, as Garry
mentioned,=
 and so can be thrown out
without changing the story. I personally felt that the original creators
o= f the episode decided that
since the aliens were so human-like in appearance, they had to explain that=
 somehow by saying it
was a duplicate Earth. If this story had never appeared in TOS, and the
pr= oducers came up with that
storyline for an episode of "Enterprise," I doubt that they would
use a dup= licate Earth.  Afterall, we've
seen enough human-like aliens to accept that. As for "Omega
Glory" and "Br= ead and Circuses,"
I interpret those worlds as alien, but having some elements of particular
E= arth cultures, such as
the cold war or elements of Roman culture transplated into a more
technolog= ical society.  Looked at
in depth, these worlds can be quite different than what we saw in the
episo= des.  "Omega Glory"
was the kind of story that might have worked, were it not for the
heavy-han= ded American symbolism
like the flag and the constitution. Something similar, something that
repr= esented the ideals of the
United States and not an exact duplicate, would have been better. As for
M= agna Roma, that does
sound like an interesting world, as some writers have realized. I've added=
 it to my newly-revised
map of the Federation zone, but I don't plan on writing any stories that
in= volve it, at least not yet. I'll
leave that for Joe.

"Miri," "Omega Glory" and "Bread and
Circuses" are examples of semi-canonic= al episodes in Steve-
Trek, which means that for the purposes of my interpretation of the
"Star T= rek" universe, those episodes
happened, but not exactly as portrayed.
