(Continued from previous message)

BG> single-task under DOS, believe it or not.

RS> Not basically, and if they are that brain dead, thats their problem.

BG> What about dedicated ACAD machines,

Most dont actually use that single tasking. And they dont normally use
that machine for mail reading either. And if they do, they should just
startup the MT before they do. Dead obvious really. Those machines are
always grunty enough to be able to MT.

BG> or accounting PCs, or whatever.

Most of those arent single tasking either now.

BG> There are vast numbers of machines which don't even need a MTer at all.

Nope, thats crap basically. As the widespread use of Win shows so clearly.

RS> With the n permanently assigned by your auto desktop restart
RS> or even more radical not turning the machine off ever.

BG> No point leaving it on all night here,

RS> Fraid so, much better machine reliability, no farting around starting
RS> up the apps again when you turn it on, even if that stuff is autostarted.

BG> If it blows up, I can easily fix it in less
BG> time than it's taking me to write this message,

You mean like how long it took you to get a usable new motherboard Bill ?

BG> and until such time as you offer to pay my power bill, I'll
BG> continue to leave it off overnight, thanks all the same Rod.

You can stand on your head and read mail, power it with pedal
power too if thats what turns you on Bill. You were the one
saying 'no point' which was crap tho.

RS> They all should be, even stuff used only once a week,
RS> machine never turned off. Only way to go for quick task
RS> switches. Anything else is medieval dinosaur stuff.

BG> Or a total fucking waste of RAM.

Says he who has already GOT that ram. Sure Bill |-)

BG> Do you honestly believe that it's good practice to
BG> leave an app loaded if you're not going to be using
BG> it for another week? Pull the other one Rod. |-)

Stop playing with yourself Bill. Yes I do, only sensible
way to use a machine. You can act like a dinosaur if you
like, watch out you dont go extinct now |-)

RS> Anything else is dinosaur technology.

BG> Well, feel free to send me another 16Mb, and I'll be
BG> more than happy to do as you suggest, but until then... |-)

It will work fine in your current 16MB.

BG> right or wrong (and who's to say what that is
BG> anyway, as circumstances and needs differ?).

RS> Thats crap basically.

BG> What, my assertion or my opinion?

All of the above.

RS> You could say the same thing about pencil and paper when writing a
RS> novel. Only someone who is brain dead would claim 'circumstances and
RS> needs differ', its just plain fucked. It really is as simple as that.

BG> No point arguing this any more. I'll agree to disagree.

Sure, you are welcome be wrong if you want,
its a free world last time I looked |-)
