that might be (part of?) the problem... how long are those error files? are
they the ones named in my script? if so, .2 is from the ./configure
session... if it failed on something, then the compile phase will
definitely fail...

things to look for and poke at when things go awry... and then, there's
those other guys in here that are much more adept at this stuff...
