subject: continuing emmsions info

->Most of you will recall the emmisions testing discussion..
-> ..
-> 1995 GMC 3/4ton van, 4.3L v6.

->       40kph    idle
->HCppm  108      200
->CO%     .6       1
->NOppm  1775     n/a

->Okay, for comparison;

-> 1989 Grand Marquis, 302cid (5.0L) v8

->   40kph
->HC  68
->CO  .38
->NO  751

->Okay, whats wrong with this picture?

3/4 ton truck. Around here, trucks get greater leeway. I suspect there
was some political lobbying when the limits were decided.

->Oh, they're tightening the limits 11% Jan 1 2003 across the board. So,
->barely able to pass v8's might fail, but higher polluting smaller engines
->still pass. mumble. grumble.stupid.f'ing.stick.up.their...

(roar!)

->Just when I think I am rant free...

Then it wouldn't be so interesting. As in, "May you live in interesting
times."

What I don't know is if the testing station is connected to the central
registry computer in such a way as to flag an uninspected vehicle after
some grace period. If there's no way to tell if a car was inspected,
I'd be tempted to Photoshop and print up a "sticker".

Always the rebel, I guess.
