I got it to compile, and showed you how I did it. Setting LIBDIR to an empty
string didn't work for me either. I figured letting you know how I did it would
help you out a bit.

After getting areafix to compile, hpt and htick compiled easily. Then I had the
issue with areastat and showed you how I got that to compile as well.
