There's not much else to say as that pretty well sums it up.  

The US troops are caught right in the middle of a civil war.  There 
is no way for the US to win militarily.  And, the current diplomatic 
situation puts the US in a lose-lose scenario.  

The shrub and his buddies really thought this one out very well.
