LB> On the other hand, I once did a portrait of Joe Louis, the boxer,
LB> using a 50mm lens on an RB67. I had him extend his famous fist
LB> toward the lens until it filled the bottom half of the frame.
LB> His head was still close enough to the centre that there was no
LB> objectionable foreshortening.
LB> I used a similar technique to do a shot on a karate instructor,
LB> who was just in process of opening an new school. He did a
LB> series of choreographed movements - something like a 'kata' IIRC,
LB> (Karen?)
Yes, kata is the correct term.
I spent yesteday at an 8 hour train-a-thon. My husband taught 3
seminars during that time while I watched, took photos, and visited
with the many people I have come to know over the years. A picture I
took at this same event 2 years ago has been make into a plaque and hangs
at the federation headquarters in Ottawa. The person who puts on this
event was quite pleased to see I had come again, with camera attached :)
- ending in a power blow aimed just short of the bottom
LB> of the lens shade on the Brooks. All the energy gathered during
LB> the moves that lead up to the blow was released into the shot.
LB> The reporter complimented that I only flinched AFTER the exposure!
Good for you. It just goes to show that you were focused on what YOU
were doing. One black belt I know used to deliver a power punch to my
face and stop within a hare's breath of my nose. I didn't flinch either.
He pointed that out to his wife and asked her why it was that I trusted him
more than she did :>
... When in doubt, just howl at the moon.
