Concerning _scanning_, Rich Willbanks said to Troy H. Cheek in SCANRADIO:
THC>> a 200W amp that has a "CD/AUX IN" jack. I just run a simple
THC>> patch cord from scanner headphone jack to the amp and viola!
RW>
RW> I guess I'm strange. I just bought an amplified speaker, attached a
RW> cigarette plug to it (I'm going to hard wire it some day) and use an Y
RW> spliter to run it and my scanner at the same time.
Well, my setup is *supposed* to be for my portable CD player so my girlfriend
can listen to her tunes while we drive. :-)
Think long and hard before you hardwire anything. I hardwired my universal
adapter so I could take advantage of my noise filter. A few months later, my
car needed some work and I ended up driving another for what seems like
forever. I almost wish I'd wired the noise filter into the cigarette lighter
instead...
RW> I used to do that until my old handheld slipped out and whacked my
RW> wife in the head. Gave her a bump above the eye and ME a headache (It
RW> happened almost a year ago and I STILL hear about it )
I'm seriously considering some kind of rack or tray that I can hook to my
dashboard, so that the scanner will sit securely just to the right of my
steering wheel. Sure, this will block access to the car radio, but it
doesn't work anyway...
I just had a mental picture of me installing a mobile scanner in place of the
car radio. I think we'd better change the subject!
RW> So are my PRO-37 and AR1000 but even a brick will break
RW> if you drop it enough.
Oh, I know. I'm just constantly amazed at how much abuse modern these things
can take. I've gone through a lot of handheld radios in my line of work, and
the best didn't seem to hold up as well as the least of the scanners I've
used.
... (Ice rocks hit the hull) "Captain, we are being hailed."
