I don't understand what's the deal with 16 bit samples. With 8 bit
samples, the noise level is about 1/127 of the sound level, when the
whole level range is used. Maybe the difference is noticeable when the
sound fades out, because the sound level is decreasing - but recent
integration of ADSR in ImpulseTracker and FastTracker reduces this
problem, which anyway isn't a problem for me. This ADSR thing is
interesting though, because it helps making samples shorter: you make a
short loop within the sample, you create an envelope, and bang! you can
have a superb cello or clarinet that fits into 3k.
Anyway, either I.T. or F.T. (or maybe both) support 16 bit samples.
