several days ago i read in this echo a rather poor description of the
breed bull terrier. i did agree with the writer in that most people
who obtain these breeds do so for all the wrong reasons and as such
damage an otherwise fine breed, as is often the case the blame gets
placed on the animal and not the ignorant owner. I have a Brittish
Staffordshire Bull Terrier. this animal has shown aggression on
precisely two occassions. once the dog came upon another of his breed
,' male' marking his turf, his actual place of residence and he snapped
growled and began to charge..... until i gave him a verbal command to
stay, obeyed immidiately. the second occassion he attacked an actual
person and again was stopped on verbal command, the reason for this attack
became clear one week later when the gentleman in question was arrested
for sodomising a nine year old boy in his apartment which is below mine.
i was not at home at the time the attack occurred but was later informed
the attacker had removed his hearing aids during the attack so as not
to hear the boys screams, undoubtably the dog did. had i known of this
attack on the boy at the time the dog went after the perpetrator i still
would have prevented it as it would be terrible to have to lose such a
fine animal for such a poor excuse for a person, he resides as well he
should in prison at this time. this dog is walked off lead at all times,
is five yrs. old, obeys verbal commands reliably to about 150'.
kittens were born to a stray cat under the house, it is something to see
his tentative curious approach to these kitten whose eyes are barely open.
at this time they are the best of friends as well as with the mother
cat. other notable friends he's made are dobbies, rottweillers and just
about any breed of dog you can care to name, especially a whippit he
liked to run with. he has been attacked on a couple occassions and
did not retaliate and i was forced to interpose myself to prevent him
being injured, although i'm sure once hurt he would attack back. but he's
just not been raised that way, he's a pet and a friend. i would indeed
be fortunate if i'd ever met one person on this earth who has proven as
trustworthy, reliable and responsible as this remarkable animal.
