subject: Budget balance

...

TR>> "The budget should be balanced, the treasury should be
refilled, public
TR>> debt should be reduced, the arrogance of public officials should be
TR>> tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be
TR>> curtailed...... People must again learn to work, instead of living on
 TR>> public assistance."

DD>>Who was the last president to balance the budget??? Wasn't it that well
DD>>known darling of the "left" and notorious philanderer,
William Jefferson
 DD>>"Slick Willy" Clinton?

 TR>> No....it wasn't.

 DD> Yes, it was ...

DD> Q: When was the US federal budget last balanced?

DD> A: In 1998, Bill Clinton presented the first balanced
DD> federal budget (with no annual deficit) since 1969 ...

And it was the second longest balanced budget string of the 20th
century. The longest was from 1920 to 1930. Eleven years.
 Followed by the Great Depression.

Whereas Clinton's string was 4 years, followed by the Bush
interregnum. A recession in 2001, followed up by a
 recession/near depression in 1987.

There were a dozen balanced budget periods in the 20th century.
By periods I mean consecutive years. A couple were interrupted
by war. All the others were interrupted by recessions. All of
 them.

Are balanced budgets really worth it?

DD> The last Republican president to balance the budget was
 DD> Dwight D. Eisenhower.

 Followed by recession.

 DD> ENJOY!!!
