>>> Dennis Menard on Ethics
DM> That's true. But there are a number of anecdotal cases that really
DM> prompt one to wonder; check out the case of Mumia Abu-Jamal,
DM> Philadelphia, about 14 years ago, black activist, on death row for
DM> about a dozen years now.
DM> Just checked. As of January 04, 1998:
DM> The Pennsylvania Supreme Court is deliberating Mumia's appeal now and
DM> may announce its decision regarding a new trial very soon!
This guy doesn't know if he's coming or going.
DM> Mumia Abu-Jamal was a Black Panther. !?
14 years for being a Black Panther? Was it a targeted frame or was is a
frame of opportunity, just happening to be in the wrong place at the wrong
time and as he was a Black Panther, he was bagged?
WE> Here's one. Environmentalists work with loggers to get the loggers to
WE> realize: no forest, no jobs. The environmentalist who forged this
WE> labor alliance get car bombed on the way to an important forest meeting
WE> in SF. They wake up in the hospitable charged with possession of
WE> explosive devices. Previously they had received telephone warnings and
WE> discussed such with an unsympathetic police force. Weren't they ever
WE> stuck in a log jam!
DM> Accuse the victim! Disorients 'em proper and convinces a gullible
DM> public they have made a profound error in judgement. Right or wrong, a
DM> majority is always safe when you're going with the flow ...
The media coverage was hard put to put this one over. As Earth First members
have spiked trees, they were all considered terrorists. Therefore these
terrorists use bombs. Being an environmentalist in America is dangerous.
Some people want to declare open season on them.
DM> Hmm ... Sounds typical. New Zealand is a lovely place, lots of
DM> trees. But, you know, except for Fjordland (ie, SW corner of the South
DM> Island) all those trees are planted in the straightest, most unnatural
DM> rows you'll ever see. Makes one long for a little primordial chaos.
To use salvage log ridder logic: for the health of these forests you should
cut them all down so they can be replanted in a healthy natural way.
