The number of received messages is supposed to be the same
(baring technical difficulties).  However, one really big
drawback of newsgroups (AFAIK) is that every message is
basically written to "ALL".  Actually, there is no "TO"
field in a newsgroup message.  The problem with this is
that you have to make it a point to keep on the lookout for
any replies, unlike Fido where you get instantly notified
of replies.  I don't find that Fido replaces newsgroups or
that newsgroups replace Fido.  I like them both for
different reasons.
