If it changes the meaning of the quoted text, it's because it takes away their
ability to flame him within my reply.  I change it to the name he wishes to
use.  It's a correction, because they've made a mistake.

It doesn't matter if it's the name on his birth certificate or not.  It's not
the name he wishes to go by, and he should be called by the name he wants.

If they've never thought to correct the misspelled names in their replies, then
I guess that's their loss.

I'll simply remove the offending text and replace it with a nice, large
disclaimer.  You said in your previous message that I could simply not quote
the words I didn't agree with, so that's what I'll do.
