Squish brands the settings to the datafiles when it creates the files by
tossing to them. Since you are creating/tossing them with another program
that evidently doesn't do this, SQPACK doesn't find the info in the .SQD
files when it executes. You can verify this by running SQSET (without
settings) against the ones that aren't packing and you'll probably get 0 0 0
in return. Do the same against an area that =is= packing properly and you
should get some real values instead of all zeroes. SQSET the values you want
on the areas without them, and SQPACK should behave as you'd expect.

Does SOS parse SQUISH.CFG or does it have it's own config for the newsgroup
areas? You may want to nag the author to support the flags, if he's not.
.\\ike
PS You might want to look at NGate if you're not actually using the SOUP
format for anything. It goes straight from the NNTP server to the Squishbase
without any intermediate file format(s) or additional conversion steps.
