You are the first (that I know of) with this experience. Did you read the 
docs, especially about the DTR signal?  Which modem dif you try it with? 
To the repondants with the suggestion to use redirection: this does not work 
always as desired, depending on the modem type, its customisation and if you 
need the modem response.
