Over the weekend I was helping the President of one of the clubs that I
belong to sort out the clubs files and came across a newsletter (dated
Spring/Summer 1994) from the Pacific Riding for the Disabled Association and
it had a great article in it called What Riding Means To Me:
What riding means to me can never be sufficiently expressed with mere words,
it is emotional.
Riding means pure joy; it sends shivers down my spine.
Riding means promise of a pain free day ahead.
Riding means success, something that seemed to elude me before.
Riding is a building block that took me from one single block to eventually a
strong building.
Riding means control over your horse in a life where so many things are out
of our control; it is wonderful to be able to make your horse move forward
for the first time.
Riding is friendship with the wonderful staff and all of the riders.
Riding is fun sitting around in the barn, surrounded by the smell of hay,
goofing off with your fellow riders between classes or at a competition.
Riding is love; love for your horse, love for your instructor, and most of
all a new love for your self.
One day I hope to instruct disabled riding and give back a little joy,
promise, success, control, friendship, fun, and most of all love.
The article was written by Jamie McCrum. I hope you enjoyed reading it as
much as I did.
