Bi> Living in Minnesota, I've been reading with envy all the reports
Bi> of those
Bi> of you from other parts of the country who already have your gardens
Bi> in. We've had to wait both for the ground to thaw and for the resulting
Bi> slop to firm up enough to work. Also, night time temps still dip into
Bi> the thirties on occasion. This weekend, things were finally right.
Don't feel bad.. Even though I live in Texas, the weather has been having a
hard time getting into the 80s and the rains were too heavy all last week.
The weather has finally become ripe for my illegal outdoor crop. 80s in the
day and 70s at night, and we are ahead in yearly precip, so I've had
naturally moist soil to work with and germinate my seeds in. AND the
goddamned clouds have finally quit witholding the sun(and the heat!).
I know how you feel. And it surprises me that you live so far north(shorter
growing season). Do you live on a farm or are you a suburban gardener?? How
can you start plants when you still have 40/30 temps? Do you do some indoors
and plant outside? All your posts sound like you have a full fledge farm.
I've been wanting to grow jalapenos and some other things for myself because
I like the connection with the earth I get from growing and cultivating
plants.
Was watching the weather channel and you're probably getting your spring
rains now. As for me, I'll have the last of mine this weekend. It will be
summer drought time for me soon. The only hope I have for water in the
summer is that a hurricane will graze my area and dump that precious rain. I
hate seasons with heavy spring rains and early droughts... Even if it make
germination easier. :/
