*** Quoting Rich Willbanks from a message to Alan Rackmill ***
RW> 1. Two single people can take a larger deduction on
RW> their income tax then a married couple. An
RW> incentive to not get married.
RW> 2. A single mother can get benefits for her child but
RW> if she marries the father she loses those
RW> benefits. An incentive to not get married.
RW> 3. The more children a single mother has the more
RW> benefits (money, food stamps, etc.) she gets. An
RW> incitive to have more and more children.
RW> 4. A single mother who goes to work at an entry level
RW> job loses benefits worth more then the money she
RW> brings home from that job. An incitive not to
RW> work.
RW> And people wonder why there are so many people on
RW> government assistance.
And a single woman with child, recieving support from the father for the
child, seldom qualifies for any of this, is she does, it is at a
substantially reduced rate. Think about that for a second.
