Hi Roy!
Tuesday January 20 1998, Roy J. Tellason babbled to Gabor Z. Papp:
GZP>> Thank you All for the answers, but the echo method don't
GZP>> works for me. I see, modem receive the command, (blinking
GZP>> led) but do nothing.
-> This sounds like perhaps there's a mismatch of baud rate between what the
-> port is set at and what the modem is looking to see. Something to look
at,
-> anyway...
I've installed a few modems that did something like that. The light would
flash but I couldn't ever use the modem. What I found was that not all the
DB-25 ribbon cables you see will work the same on every system board. I went
through 4 different ones for this system before I found one that would work.
Now, I'll always give something the benefit of the doubt that I may have had
4 bad connectors, but I find that to be unlikely seeing how they were all
new. I also (when doing support for Gateway) ran across an article relating
to this on the web. I can't remember if it was Intel, but it's whoever
makes/made the Thor and Tiger-Eye system boards. They said plain as day on
the page that not all pinouts for a DB-25 connector were the same.
Just something to consider in the future....
